3dcreative's September issue is out now! Here's a peek at what's in store...

We're loving our shiny new style and have filled it with awesomeness this issue. As well as loads of impressive cars, engines and robots, this month is a must-read for aspiring character designers, packed with cartoons, aliens and photorealism.

We kick things off with an interview with Victor Hugo, who we can't get enough of and couldn't resist catching up with him to see what he's been up to in the past year. We talk about his art and the exciting Trojan Horse was a Unicorn Festival being held in Portugal this month.

We also chat to Ken Barthalmey, one of our favourite 2d creature designers who has recently made his first work in ZBrush. We talk to him about his project and how he adapted his processing to 3D.

We've got a bit of a theme this month, as our tutorials are a medley of textures, shaders and UVs! We begin with the incredible Andrew Hickinbottom who describes how he dresses and rigs his stylized cartoon character, Cara, before teaching us his method of UV unwrapping ready for texturing.

Sied Tursic also shows how he uses Unwrap Modifier and UV Master in 3ds Max to unwrap his concept character, The Loan Shark. We then move into Maya, where Patrick Evrard shows us how he creates and applies UV's. He's shared some cool turntables too, which give a great overview of the character's modeling and texture mapping.

Moving away from cartoon images and into the incredibly realistic, Dan Roarty teaches us his method of perfecting textures in Maya to achieve the remarkable photorealistic finish he is known for.

Tanoo Choorat explains how to make his fantastically peculiar hybrid creature Bloom. He offers tips on how to design, sketch, sculpt and texture a character in ZBrush, Maya and Photoshop to make imaginative yet believable creature anatomies.

This issue's project overviews are a hard-surface modeler's dream! Tim Diaz shares his effective method of modeling a jet turbine, while Marcel Haladej describes how he perfected his fab industrial image IFA.

Finally, Ubisoft's Magdalena Dadela's shares her ZBrush sketchbook, which is a real treat for the eyes! She describes the inspirations and technical processes behind her evocative and characterful 3D portrait sketches.

Packed with seven different projects, interviews and a gallery, this month's 3dcreative is a goldmine of information and inspiration.

The September issue of 3dcreative magazine is on sale now for just £2.99 (approx $4.69 US) in the 3dtotal shop. 3dcreative is a downloadable PDF magazine.
