'3D Studio Max'

Making of 'Biblio'

by Carlos Rinaldo

Software Used:

Rhinoceros, 3ds Max and Photoshop

Hi everybody, I am Carlo Rinaldo. I was born in Italy in 1980 and I live in Milan. I have a master degree in Industrial Design from the Politecnico di Milano and I have worked in CGI since 2000.

I am currently a freelance 3D artist and I work with advertising, architecture and design. I’m completely self-taught and have spent hours and hours working through tutorials in lots of different software packages.

This scene is an idea I started about one year ago for the company where I work on an ongoing basis (Mozart Srl), which I then chose to finish by myself later. The inspiration for this work came from watching the amazing video The Third & The Seventh. The idea was to build a library with real proportions, but with an unrealistic touch of magic created by lighting (Fig.01).

I started building the furniture, drawing inspiration from existing libraries (Fig.02).

Next I modeled the structure of the scene (Fig.03) and the additional details, starting with the interior of the building (Fig.04) and then moving onto the exterior (Fig.05).

"Making of Le Bain" by Eve Berthelette
I started ‘’Le Bain’’ in 2007; the idea was to do something architectural and oriental. After some sketches, it
became a bathhouse. Unfortunately, I had to put this project aside due to lack of time, which resulted in a lack of motivation as well... But recently (this last January 2010) I happened to have lots of free time… and still had this unachieved project, so I gave it a new try – it took literally a month of work, and here it is at last!

"Making of Classic Living Room" - Using 3DTotal Textures by Roger Vila Castane
This is my first Making Of and I’m going to try to briefly explain the process of creating my image Classic Living
Room
. I used 3ds Max for the main development of the image and VRay as the renderer. I also used Adobe
Photoshop for creating the textures and adding the final touches at the end.

Well, it is more like "i got passed every defender and scored", withour explaining how you passed defenders... I am an advanced user, so I can understand some of what and why you did, but most of people wont.

With regards to Making Ofs it is up to the artists what they choose to focus on and they are not all intended for beginners. Also please note that many of our contributors are not native English speakers and therefore their Making Ofs are likely to be less detailed because of this. While we appreciate that this means you will find some more informative than others, we believe it is important to give everyone a chance to share their practices and showcase their work.

Making of is the story of work creation. Author chooses the topic of his article by himself. If you want to study the lighting setup, buy training DVDs or ask the author! So, be more respectful.2 authorThanks for this article. That was very interesting.
