Concept

In this image I wanted to express a feeling. I wanted the main character to look like she was under intense pressure but tenacious, unyielding and always willing to stand up and fight. The process that I used was not a standard process. As I was focused on the final appearance of the image I avoided normal routines in an attempt to capture the personality of the characters. I started by thinking about the camera angle and by coming up with a basic concept sketch (Fig.01). I then created a simple base mesh for the characters that I could then adjust in ZBrush (Fig.02).

Draft

Having a good idea about what you want to do is an important part of the process. I spent some time thinking about the way I wanted the final image to look. To help me do this I gathered a selection of references for the characters and the overall theme of boxing. I also took some photos of myself in the poses that I wanted to use (Fig.03).

This is really well done, both the piece of art and the tutorial as well. The attention to systematic planning and detail is worthy of applause. Just a quick one, did you model the background characters as well? Regards Paul
