3DTotal :
Looking at your portfolio, it appears that you have specialised in modelling. Is this the case and do you recommend honing your skills in one particular discipline?
Raul : Yes it is true. Modelling has always been the most appealing part of CG to me and always will I think. As for concentrating your skills in one direction or all directions at the same time, I think that it’s important to know that whichever direction you choose to go, you will still have something to lose. The solution or at least the temporary solution, I think, is to know your part very well and be able to integrate it correctly in a entity.

3DTotal : As you are a relatively young artist, what are your current ambitions?
Raul : I want to travel the world, see new people and see new things, using the skills I have accumulated over the years. It’s very rewarding when you can harvest the fruits of your labour. I also want to start creating more meaningful models and works, but this will come with time and a lot of practice hopefully.

3DTotal :
When your not modelling, what other hobbies/interest do you enjoy?
Raul : It’s funny that you ask, but for the last year or so I have done nothing but model, at least the last three months have been a continuous modelling session. When I am not modelling, I am out with my friends or my brother, playing basketball, or other physically demanding activities. For me it is very important not to be stuck in front of the pc.

3DTotal : What are the opportunities open to other 3D artist in your country (Romania)?
Raul : Things are starting to pick up momentum, you can find jobs in the games and TV industry, but I believe the CG movie industry is rather inexistent at this point in my country, but maybe I am misinformed.

3DTotal : What and who inspires you as an artist?
Raul : I have been going through a rough period recently and it was pretty hard to find something that excites me anymore, but I think inspiration can be found in the classics, in contemporary artists and most importantly in the world around us, but I have found it hard to do so. If there is one thing that always gives me an adrenaline spike, it’s a model made with passion and joy, and I have seen a few pop up in the 3d community recently, which makes me very happy.
Thanks for the interview Chris and a big thanks to the 3dTotal team.
