3DTotal: You have produced the most photo-real character renders we have ever seen, can you tell us a bit about the software an overview of the process?

Lee: Thank you for your kind words with regards to my work. I absolutely love creating characters, it is so difficult and such a challenge even in today's market. Personally I wouldn't want to use anything else other than Newtek's Lightwave 9.3 for this task. Bare in mind I use Max 8 all day everyday at work and although it has it's up's, as many other artists may know it also has a great deal of downs. Lightwave is a joy to use and in |

conjunction with FPRIME 3.1 from Worley labs the results it can produce are
nothing short of breath taking.
Since ZBRUSH 3 came along digital assets
have been such a joy to create. I use ZBRUSH 3, Lightwave 9.3, Bodypaint 3 3D and sometimes a bit of Max9 for hair creation when building characters. I also use a custom plug-in for Lightwave called Fiber Factory IV by Jon Tindal to render hair, it is stunning.
Other than that I have kind of a unique approach to character creation as my tutorials show. Rendering and modelling to reference images is a big help but not a safe crutch |

to work on so you do need to invest a great deal of time creating and experimenting with sculptures and different lighting setups to produce realism. I always, always re-create everything in 3Dimensions, I try and include every little detail I can from every angle of the subject, even if it wont be seen in the render : )
