Above the line art layer I do a similar effect with the eyes, just changing the settings a little depending on the resolution of the image and the size of the object.(Fig.12) Try to play around and see the different effects you can achieve!

(Fig.12)

Now I create a little more mood by adding the fog (Fig.13).

First I create a layer below the flats layers and, selecting a charcoal large smear brush, I loosely paint in the mist and then change the opacity of the layer to 80% to give it a bit of transparency.

Second, I create another layer above the line art layer and do exactly the same thing, but afterwards I go over this second layer with the eraser tool to rub out a few parts that I want visible in the forground, namely Daredevils hand.

To create a more realistic backgorund I simply paint white dots on the background of a new layer and give the layer 90% opacity. Then I go and colour the spots. I’m not totally sure what they are so I use my imagination a bit and use the same technique I used on the moon and eyes. I also make them a little less harsh by taking away the inked outline. I do this by simply painting white on the line art layer in the areas where I don’t want an outline. (Fig.14)

The final touches:

1. First I select the flats layer of the Daredevil by pressing the CTRL button over the layer. I create a new layer over the lineart layer and fill my selection with white. I use a Gaussian Blur filter (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) and change the layer to 60% opacity. Next I erase all the parts, leaving just a light countour where I want the glow to show.

Repeat the same steps with Elektra

2. You can change the colours on some of the oultines to soften them a bit, like I did on the head stones. Be careful not to abuse this effect too much or you will lose the effect of the lines!

And that’s about it! I hope this helped some of the colourists out there.(Fig.15)
