6. No Man's Sky

Number 2 in the cheeky mini-list of games that aren't actually out yet, No Man's Sky is an inspiration and a triumph for two distinct reasons. One, it's phenomenally imaginative in how it looks, with distinct and – importantly – interesting presentation throughout its procedural generation of a whole universe.

Second, it's being made by a handful of people in Guildford, UK, and considering the scope of the game... well, it's incredible!

7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The third unreleased game in this list, The Witcher 3 looks utterly stunning from what we've seen so far. The world is huge and fully explorable, and the translation from text-to-game for the characters shows just how a long-lasting, much-loved series can be brought alive on screens and monitors across the world.
Plus, Geralt's hair is nice...

8. God of War 3

Ridiculously over the top, massive and inspired by some of the epics of mythology – what's not to like about God of War 3's artistic style? Even years later the game still looks great, thanks to a consistent tone throughout and some awe-inspiring encounters with gargantuan friends and foes (though mainly foes).

It's like Ray Harryhausen's work in bringing mythology to life, but transported to gaming.

9. Okami

Working in the world of 3D art doesn't mean you have to stick firmly in the tenets of that discipline, as shown by the classic Okami. The game blends traditional (rather unspectacular) 3D artistry with an incredible-looking Japanese watercolor style.

This elevates what would have been a standard, by-the-numbers look to a whole other level – and the incorporation of painting and the watercolor theme into elements of the game itself is a real masterstroke.

10. Grand Theft Auto IV

GTA V looks better, true – but only out of the box. When you apply the iCEnhancer mod, it's a whole other story. This remarkable-looking graphical re-skin isn't the work of professionals, paid to do the job – it's enthusiasts and fans. That in itself has to be an inspiration to anyone who doubts what they can create.

If a bunch of amateurs can make this, the possibilities are endless!

This is great! I think Borderlans 2 deserves to be on this list! But the games on the list are really nice to watch, i preffer watching gameplays rather than playing them and almost all of this game are on mi list too.

Where's the Assassin's Creed love? Every single title is a masterpiece in both 3D design and beauty.
