Creator of 00:10, Cornelius Dämmrich, shares his recent works and a few words with 3dtotal in our latest artist interview...
3dtotal: Could you please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where you are located?
I am Cornelius; I am a mostly self-taught 3D artist and I live in Cologne in West Germany. At the moment I work as a 3D freelancer and spend most of my time creating 3D assets for environments.
3dt: How did you learn to create digital images?
I used to get my hands on an old version of CINEMA 4D
when I was 15 and just tried to build images with it. I've read a lot about rendering, shading, light and general physical properties and how these things behave in the real world, to adapt some of them for my work. The biggest learning tool though was simply trial and error I guess.
3dt: Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?
I started 3D because I liked the work of Steven Stahlberg
, Pascal Blanché
and Arild Wiro
, but today I try not to focus on just 3D, even if I admire the style and the technical abilities of several artists like Toni Bratincevic
, Marek Denko
and Paul Pepera
Today I like the paintings of Ashley Wood
, the mixed media works of Gottfried Helnwein
, the videos of Chris Cunningham
, Sergey Kolesov
, Piotr Jablonski
... stuff like that.
3dt: What software would you like to learn in the future to expand your portfolio and skillset, and why?
Some top dog software... CINEMA 4D is still not common enough, so it would be best to learn 3ds Max
or something else... but I am very lazy and I love the usability of CINEMA 4D. On the render-side, I would love to get my hands on Octane 2.0
, but I need a new graphics card for that.
3dt: How do you like to unwind after a hard day's (or night's) work?
I watch Louie with Louis CK, search videos of random A-list celebrity crushes I have, sleep, eat or play some games.
3dt: If you could choose any superhero power, what would you take?
I would love to freeze time, like in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
