Mark Lee, a senior artist working at Uniform, reveals how he took a breather from creating photorealistic arch-viz to render a host of iconic buildings... Play-Doh style!

Introduction

Mark Lee is a senior artist working at Uniform in the UK. He originally studied Computer Animation at Teesside University, and has since moved into architectural visualisation, acquiring over 8 years of experience as a senior artist, working with some of the largest architectural practices in the world.

He's had work published in numerous magazines and has won various industry awards such as 'Image of the Week' and 'Animation of the Month' on Vismasters.com and 'Visualisation Pro of the Week' on CGArchitect.com. He's also previously won at the Roses Design Awards.

Play-Doh architecture

After years of creating photorealistic architectural images, Mark wanted to take a quick breather and have a bit of fun with architecture. No design drawings, no CAD, no sketches or mark-ups, and no boundaries – just pure imagination and creative freedom.

"I revisited my childhood and arrived at the ultimate modelling tool... Play-Doh!" he says. "The result is a series of images celebrating a selection of iconic buildings I've had the privilege of working on over the past few years. This also led on to me creating a 10 second ‘sting' for E4 which has been chosen as a finalist in the 2013 EStings competition and will be shown on air throughout the year."
