ZBrush modeling techniques

Ali Noori runs through the ZBrush workflow behind the creation of his sc-fi alien character: Infested Marine

In this tutorial I will explain a little about modeling my character; Infested Marine, and the techniques I used to create this model using ZBrush software.

Start sculpting

I started from a sphere in ZBrush and created a very rough pose. I used DynaMesh to allow me more freedom to getting my proportions the way I wanted. To adjust the proportions, I used the Move brush and the Standard brush to sculpt the muscles in the right place.

Creating armor

I used the InsertCylinder brush to create the extra geometry, and the ClayTubes brush to create the base of armor. From there, I started to add more detail to the model.

Body details

I started to add general detail to the body using the Slash3 and ClayTubes brushes. I tried to sharpen the muscles and give him a specific shape. DynaMesh helped me deform the model until I got the main idea.

Creating weapons

To create the weapons I simply used a base cylinder and began to modify that by using the ClipCurve brush, along with some of the others displayed here in the picture.

Hard surfaces

To create a better appearance for the hard surfaces armor parts, I divided the armor up into several parts and tried to make them sharper using Pinch brush. I also used ZRemesher to generate a better topology on my model.

Preparing final body

After I completed the weapons and armor I added more detail on the body to make the surface more suitable to bear the armor. I used ZRemesher create better topology for the body as well.
