Lighting

As I mentioned before, at the very beginning I did extensive research regarding studio lighting in real-world scenarios. Based on this I created my own studio rig that I could adjust and change as needed. All of the lights are V-Ray plane lights with their own settings. These lights were then attached to their own soft boxes with a VrayLightMtl assigned to a plane (Fig.14).

Here is the light material assigned to the plane (Fig.15).

Here is the whole studio setup for this scene (Fig.16).

Rendering

Rendering was done with V-Ray and a plugin called SolidRocks. It is a V-Ray wizard plugin that helps with V-Ray settings. I have been using this tool for some time now and the difference in rendering speed is huge. You can try it and see for yourself. Here are the settings from the same tool (Fig.17).

When working with static images, I tend to render way too many different passes, but this time I tried to restrict myself to the following (Fig.18):

• VrayGlobalIllumination
• VrayLighting
• ObjectID
• VrayReflection
• Refraction
• Specular
• ZDepth

@ Crish - Thanks Chris. I'm glad you like it. @ Bravodesign - Lights are actualy quite settle: left diffuse - around 7 with a bit of yellowish tint, right one - 8, top is more like 12 or so and front one is I think 9 or so. With this kind of setup distance of the light is more than important so you can start with intensity of 1-2 and start building from there or than from 10 and drop it down if needed as you go.
