Benoit Regimbal Cote shares some of his portfolio and talks about his incredibly detailed 3D illustrations of everyday life...

3dtotal: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?
Ben Regimbal Cote: I'm Ben, I have been a 3D artist for almost 2 decades now. Feels like a long time! Nowadays, I am an art director for my company, MilkPresso, here in Korea.

3dt: What are your artistic ambitions?
BRC: Just to keep on creating more art.

3dt: Tell us the story behind your recent gallery entry, Viking Life: What inspired you to create it?
BRC: It's the third 3D illustration in this series. It follows the Kimchi family in a different setting; country life, city life, and this time in the Viking era.

3dt: Did you face any difficulties when creating this image, and how did you overcome them?
BRC: I had so many ideas, characters and funny situations I wanted to include, it was a challenge to make everything I wanted and still make it appealing to the eye without being necessarily too over-crowed or too busy.

3dt: What software did you use and do you have any tips for using this software, or any other software that you use to create your art in general?
BRC: Well, I still use 3ds Max and Photoshop. I know people say the tools don't make the artist, which is true, but when you find tool that you are so comfortable with, it does make the experience a whole lot more fun.

3dt: Would you consider yourself to have a particular signature style, or techniques that you use often?
BRC: When I was a character artist for gaming, I suppose I had a particular style toward hand-painting characters. Nowadays, I try to touch on different techniques and styles. But in this series of illustrations, I wanted to keep this low-poly paper-craft feel.

3dt: What software would you like to learn in the future to expand your portfolio and skillset, and why?
BRC: I still want to do more with mental ray; I feel I haven't even scratched the surface yet. Also MODO seems like something I would enjoy working with.

3dt: How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?
BRC: Well I love to do art. I make time for it that's all.

3dt: How do you like to unwind after a hard day's (or night's) work?
BRC: Spend more time with my son and my wife.

3dt: What can we expect to see from you next?
BRC: The fourth illustration in this series. It will probably be set in Joseon time time or... well, I'm not sure yet.

3dt: If you could choose any superhero power, what would you take?
BRC: A power that slows down time? Or maybe flying!
