3dtotal: Hi Andrew, can you kick things off by giving us a little background information about yourself and the type of work you create in (and for!) the 3D industry? Where did it all start?

Andrew Hickinbottom: I've been interested in 3D graphics as a hobby since the Amiga computer days. Free software on the cover of an Amiga magazine got me into it, and when I realized the high potential of this accessible and relatively new art form, I was hooked.
As 3D games got better (Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, Tekken, Tomb Raider) and TV and film makers started to use the technique more and more (Toy Story, Babylon 5, Reboot) I realized that this was the future.

I continued practicing 3D as a hobby until I finished university (studying graphic design – something of a mistake!) and got my first job in the industry, realizing my future was to pursue my hobby – my true passion; not what I was actually studying for. Since then, I have worked full-time at three animation production studios, and I now freelance, specializing in stylized (mainly human) character work.
