Every month, the public is given the opportunity to vote to decide who from the 3dtotal galleries will be the 5 top artists to win a fantastic resin model, as pictured below. There are 5 different trophies up for grabs - one has been designed for each category by an artist that has featured in the 3dtotal gallery in recent years! 1 artist will be chosen from each of the following categories as a winner every month: Character, Cartoon, Scenes, Sci-fi and Fantasy. That's 60 winners a year! These unique 3dtotal trophies will be shipped to the winner shortly after the end of each month, once voting is complete.
Here are the winners from February 2014. Well done to the winners and all the artists featured in the gallery last month - plus big thanks to all the voters for taking part, too! You're all awesome.
Scenes winner
Autumn House/Cold House/Green Place by Hamed Hosseinpour took the lead in the scenes category, winning a massive 1,453 points! These remarkable arch-viz scenes show Hamed's take on buildings with minimal designs throughout the seasons. He used 3ds Max to create these impressive renders.
Fantasy winner
Gargoyle Queen by Luca Nemolato won a respectable 1,281 points in the fantasy gallery! This image is just one of the designs that Luca created for I, Frankenstein. He's particularly pleased that the Queen Gargoyle was used in the final movie!
Character winner
Heavy Knight by Jose Augusto Rodriguez Sepulve took first place in the popular character category, receiving a score of 1,090 points! Based on a design by Trent Kaniuga for the Twilight Monk game, this character was crafted using 3ds Max and V-Ray, plus ZBrush to create the details for the displacement maps. Photoshop was his tool of choice for the final compositing work.
Cartoon winner
Spiderbaby by Daniele Frau is the winning entry to the cartoon gallery, gathering an impressive 1,048 points! This image was originally created for a 3D 'Baby Comics' competition on Treddi.com. Daniele wanted to catch the moment when Spiderman steals a bottle from the goblin (upside down!)
Sci-fi winner
Motherland by Albert Casu was the clear winner in the Sci-fi Gallery this month, earning 1,004 points! The image is a student project from his time at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, and is based on an original concept by Daryl Mandryk. The dynamic pose and V-Ray rendering results give the character an impressive finish. He hopes to set it in a nice environment, some day!
