3dcreative's October issue is out now! Here's a peek at what's in store...

3dcreative talks to two industry legends: Peter König, the veteran SFX and VFX legend whose resume lists three decades of classics from Jurassic Park to Halo 4. We also catch up with the concept design master Jerad S. Marantz, who was lead character designer for Clash of the Titans and has worked on countless awesome projects over the last few years. They tell us about their enviable careers and give advice on how to make it to the top.

We've also got more of Jerad's work for you in Alvaro Ribero's project overview, which was inspired by one of Jerad's concept sketches. Alvaro reveals what he learned making this piece under the tutelage of the amazing Rafael Grasetti. His awesome image just goes to show that learning from the masters pays!

In this month's tutorials you can also learn from the masters yourselves!

Seid Tursic from TripleClaim Game Collective talks us through extracting and texturing UV maps in 3ds Max to perfect the finish of your models and accurately translate 2D concepts into fully-formed 3D characters.

• Vintage Production's 3D generalist, Patrick Evrard shares his process of lighting and rendering his characters in Maya to check the effect of his texturing before moving on to the final finishing touches.

• Photoreal portraiture guru, Dan Roarty helps solve one of the persistent bugbears of 3D modelers the world over: how to create convincing hair. He shares his workflow and reveals that it's all about patience!

• Cartoon pin-up favorite, Andrew Hickinbottom describes how he shades, textures and lights his character using simple V-Ray techniques. He also shares some tips on how to bring your characters to life through posing and props.

• Freelance 3D generalist, Pavel Terekhov outlines his creature design workflow from developing concepts to post-production, sharing techniques to develop your own convincing creations.

Do you like Martin Nikolov's amazing Mangbetu Woman who graces the cover? Inside, Martin describes how he transformed a photograph taken in the Congo in 1925 into this arresting and thoroughly 21st Century artwork.

We also talk ZBrush sketching with Nacho Riesco Gostanza who shares some of his simple yet captivating sketch characters and explains how he gives form to his ideas.

As always, we share a peek into Digital Art Masters. This month, sink your teeth into Alessandro Baldasseroni's ZBrush and 3ds Max workflow and learn how he created the powerful character and dramatic scene for the fantasy image, Dawn.

On top of this array of creatures, characters, monsters and machines, the gallery is a collection of inspiring art in different styles, using different softwares and subjects to send your mind wandering off towards new creations.

We suggest you grab a sketchbook and fire up your software of choice – there is a lot to learn!
