@Mark2, I think that this illustration should be at the cartoon or characters gallery.
@Richard Bane, It's good to study real world references. Look at the material that you want to reproduce and try find the correct reflection, refraction and absortion of light in this object. Don't need to do it physically correct in CG. I prefer to fake it with tricks.
