Notes:
This character was made for a modeling/sculpting challenge and the theme of the contest was beauty. The rules regarding the theme were open-ended and therefore could be interpreted in any manner by the artists involved. So I picked something fantastical like a mermaid and put my own spin on it.

Thanks for the comments everyone!mel_danes: The model is great Marcus. Like much of your work I am so in love with your use of color in your textures, they are not all unsaturated grey and brown. The final image comp seems of to me, not enough contrast between the character and the back ground. I admit there may be some subtlety that I miss because of color blindness but the values seem to similar.Again great character. Was this lowpoly or high poly? If low how many did you use? The model used was a mid-level poly mesh, around 20,000 triangles. I was rushing to get it done in time for the deadline and used an optimized version of the sub division 2 mesh out of Zbrush.kirgan: Texture is really nice. great work.Too much blue in the beautishot, she doesn't stand out. Like the second image the most. McKronic: very nice work! I agree in the first shot she could definitely pop of the background more, maybe simply by adding some backlight or tweaking the color palette of the bg.I'm glad you guys liked the character and overall image. I've taken note of your comments and will try and play with the scene some more. My original goal was to have her blend into the background and have her feel as if she was part of the environment instead of on top of it. One of the things that was going to pull her from the background was the key light on her face but it seems that I should have taken it further. Overall it was a bit tricky to say the least since doing full blown images like this isn't really my thing and it looks as though it would have been better to shift the focus more onto the character and perhaps darken the background a bit more. So far the feedback has been 60% in favor of doing so and I think it's something that I'm going to tweak on the higher res image when I get the chance. For now this image will exist as it is and I'll revisit her another time. Perhaps try and rework it for hopes of future publication, who knows.:drool:In any case your feedback is very much appreciated!Tom-3DT: Great work! A well deserved plug has been placed on the frontpage, please claim your golden eye award (see link in my signature)cheersThanks a bunch Tom!BiG ToE-3DT: did you win? Unfortunately I didn't win this time out and placed second overall. The winner can be found on this link:http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1838 Robert did a fantastic job on his entry as well so I wasn't too bummed.;P
