Modelling and Rigging

  • "Attachment Constraint - Video Tutorial" by Luciano Iurino
This movie looks at how the Attachment Constraint tool can be used effectively to bind one or multiple objects to the surface of another.

  • "3dsmax: NURMS Subdivide Script - video tutorial" by Luciano Iurino
This short movie shows a maxscript that automatically turns on the NURMS when you subdivide and Editable Poly
mesh. It demonstrates how to install it and assign a hotkey so subdivision levels can be increased or decreased with ease.

  • "The Brown Teapot" by Daniel Wall
A greatly overlooked method in 3d modelling is displacement.  Many newcomers to the wide world of 3d graphics
attempt to model highly detailed geometry, either with standard poly-modelling techniques or more recently sculpting with the success of highly popular software packages, such as ZBrush or Mudbox.

  • "It's Time for Bullets" by Loir Avivi
This tutorial will be created using 3ds Max and V-Ray. For other software users, simply use your imagination.
For all those sharp-sighted people out there, you may recognise that the bullet is a 0.5cm M2 Browning Machine Gun Bullet (going way back to WWI era, and yet still widely spread today!).

  • "Head Modelling" by Hatice Bayramoglu
This tutorial will describe how I modeled my character from a sketch. I will not go into great detail, as I'm assuming
that the reader has some basic knowledge of modeling in any 3d software. The method I used here is called edge
    loop modelling.

  • "Computer Case tutorial" by Martin Kostov
Hello everyone. In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make a computer case .This are an easy to follow tutorial. I’ll explain everything as well as I can. I used 3D max 7 but I think it can be done using even 3D max 4 or 5.

  • "Making a Face" by Kazuya Mochu
As a modeler I think I have little secrets, like little tricks to do certain stuff quicker or better than other people. And
this is one of them. I kind of fell like I'm giving away a personal trick or secret by doing this. but hey. I have to try
harder, right? Can’t just live under a shadow of one trick.

  • "Facial Rigging" by Alden Filion
I used the parametric head creator by Bruce Forel. It is a great script for people to begin modeling heads. I dont personally use the script, but I found

  • "Making Random Grass"by Radoslav Zilinsky
I just want to show you the way to make quite nice random looking grass.I hope that it will be usefull to you.

  • "Water Drops" by Olivier Archer
Imagine if you could freeze time, how cool would that be? Well in this little overview i'm going to show you how using 3d studio max.

  • "How to Greeble a City" by Johannes Schlörb
In three parts we will discuss the modelling, texturing, lighting and overall scene setup to create something like the Metropolis model I did a few years ago. You can see it in action as part of the "Jetride" demo animation for BoomerLabs' Foley Studio MAX, or in the animations gallery of my website.

  • "Playing with discreet Balloons" by Filipe M. Deschamps
The focus in this project was the composition between real and virtual elements. For the virtual elements I used discreet 3ds max 6 and post producted with Adobe Photoshop CS....

  • "Making of: The gates of Hell" by Mario Russo
The Gates of Hell was created for the 38th 3Dluvr contest entitled "the gates", which got 3rd place. I was wondering
how many people in the contest would make the gates of hell and how would be the most obvious representation. I remembered Rodin´s the gates of hell. . .

  • "A little bit of Bricolage" by Miguel Madaíl de Freitas
Ok, I'm going to describe a little about the modelling of this scene. Before I begin, let me say that I applied displacement maps to almost every object in this scene, appearing that actual modelling is more complicated. It isn't! I'm a big fan of the phrase "It doesn't have to be right, it just have to look right!". . .

  • "Making a Mouse" by Nikola Drincic
As usualy, the author is supposed to say that this isn't the best way of modeling/sculpting and all that, and well I suppose it isnt, but it gets you around ;D This tutorial is not for total beginners, you should have some experience to make it through it. I have for example not explained where to find the different tools. . .

  • "Creating a low-poly pilot like character, Part1: Sculpting" by Knut Austegard
As usualy, the author is supposed to say that this isn't the best way of modeling/sculpting and all that, and well I suppose it isnt, but it gets you around ;D This tutorial is not for total beginners, you should have some experience to make it through it. • "Afro Head" by Jiri Adamec
One year ago I saw a tutorial of a head at http://www.secondreality.ch/. And my style of modeling isn´t so different. One of the basic rules is: the model should have around 99 percent four-sided polygons. And edges of the model need to flow along wuith the skull and face muscles. . .

  • "Criven Tutorial" by Aiden Gibbons
My name is Aidan Gibbons, an Irish 1st year Digital Animation student at University of Hertfordshire, England. The following tutorial is an account of how I created a goblin-like creature (criven) for a course project. The head was modelled in Max but this tutorial applies to almost all 3D applications. . .

  • Creating Eyelashes" by Juan Siquier
The creation of eyelashes is one of the most complicated tasks of a human model, there are different ways to create them, but the one that I am going to explain is the method which I feel most comfortable with; in addition, to this the result can be very realistic . . .

  • "Creating a glade using Grass-O-Matic Plugin" by Stryker
This lesson contains the detail view of glade creation process. The lesson is reckon on 3DStudioMax users and also is based on Grass-O-Matic plugin for 3DSMAX. The lesson consist of six parts, where you Can learn how to create: a ground surface with lichen and naked regions, illumination of bright sun day, grass of different types, flowers and stones . . .

  • "Modelling Blood Cells" by Mikhail Gladtchenko
The Blood Cells composition that we are going to do today is very simple to do. We'll start by constructing the blood cell first, then build the enviroment, create textures and by binding it down to the conclusion . . .

  • "Rigging 101" by Sergio Muciņo
Hi there! Welcome to the rigging 101 tutorial! I decided to post this one because I've noticed there are a lot of novice users who have a hard time trying to learn rigging (I had one!!). So, here it is.

  • "Modelling a Fiat 500 using Polymodelling " by Karabo Legwaila
This tutorial was created using 3D Studio Max 5 but most of the techniques should be possible in any 3D application. This tutorial is broken down into four chapters totaling 20 pages: Modelling the Exterior, Creating the Accessories, Building Wheels and Tires, Modelling the Interior.

  • "Making of the Shark - Part I" by Nikola Drincic
To model the Shark I used 3DStudioMax R3. The Modeling technique is same I used for SadMike. I started by assigning reference images to the right and left views as well as to the front view.

Welcome to my first kind of lesson in sub d modelling. Im taking it for granted that you know max 4 an the basic rules that apply in sub d modelling.
