“When it comes to game art competitions, nothing compares to the Dominance War,” says Dj Hancock, a 3dTotal forum moderator and last year's team 'General'. [Other high-profile game-art contests] are big, this is true, but compared to the Dominance War [they] lack one major thing, Teamwork. Dominance War takes websites and unites them as a team, then, as a team they move forward to take on the world wide web. This has never been done before and I dare anyone to say the Dominance War is just another contest.”

“Seeing what others can do pushes you to do better. So even if you don’t win, you will have learned something and I guarantee you will be a better game artist when the Dominance War is said and done...New friends will be made; new skills and techniques discovered, great artwork will be created, because as game artists that is what we do.”

Teamwork and forum building is, of course, only half the point; there's the whole aspect of cross-community bonding as artists flock from one site to another to check out new artists and join in the fun. “With more forums enrolled in 2008, artists’ loyalties to previous forums may change,” Hultqvist says.
With the Dominance War's “global game art community spirit” such cross-pollination is encouraged.
“The universal language for this event is English, so do not be afraid to register and leave comments, suggestions, or praise on Chinese, Korean or Russian forums. Everyone engaged in this event is here
to learn, try their best, and have fun, so your approval of their accomplishments is extremely encouraging and kind”

All cross-community sentiment aside, Hancock is quick to remind the other forums what they're up against this year; “I’m bringin all my 3dTotal troops with me,” he says, “Seeing that 3dTotal is last year's Champion, I made it my duty to make sure it stays that way. We have been training non stop with harder and harder competitions to get our creative juices flowing. As a whole, I would have to say that we went from a trickling creek to a waterfall of creative juice. I feel sorry for anyone that steps up to the plate this year.” Certainly 3dTotal is no underdog this time around.

Dominance War 3 is slated to begin in February 2008. See www.dominancewar.com for more details
