February 2010 Challenge "The Coming Of The Ice" The Results
Digital Painting - Abominable Snowman: Zakuro |
Rich-3DT: Reminds me of the Gorillaz style but it is amusing. The environment looks a bit inconsistent with the character style but overall some good colouring and humour won me over.
ClassicGamer-3DT: Really love this style of painting, very anime meets disney's lilo and stitch kind of style, love the experions on the snowman and the seals, the ice cave looks superb, and a wonderful drawn lines and colours.
Low Poly (Game Art) - Snow Creature: xxxcubanxxx |
| Chrip-3DT: Solid character - nice model, texturing and pose. |
ClassicGamer-3DT: Gotta love this character, a proper alien looking snow creature, love the features on the face and the inclusion of a huge club really adds to the age of this creature, you could really picture this creature hiding in secret for years and years. Modelling is excellent as is the texture work, the textures give an alien look but also slightly amphibious too. Great lighting for the final render and a really good character, great work.
Simon-3DT: I really like the shape and skin colours you have chosen for this character, it gives it a very cold feel.
Matte Painting - Polar Colony: TheSaraf |
| Tom-3DT: I like the consistency across the image, lighting looks a bit fake but your ideas and structures look believable. |
ClassicGamer-3DT: Really like the futuristic modern prison or fortress style to this one, love the clouds and the vehicles with the snow tracks, some really nice details in this one especially the distand moon/planet and the mountains. Great addition of snow everywhere and well composited.
Speed Modeling - Solar Ice Drilling Machine: bgen |
BiG ToE-3DT: Really thinking outside of the box with this on. Good clean modeling mixed with real life ideas makes this one a winner.
ClassicGamer-3DT: Almost like a secret government spy driller, a very very clever idea executed beautifully, really great modelling and it's all the more impressive to see something organic modelled from scratch.
Sculpting Challenge - Abominable Snowman: Mr Funk |
| Tom-3DT: I like the Neanderthal/snow-beast cross, very believable with a nice bit of stylisation in the mix. |
BiG ToE-3DT: Went with this one because he went in a different direction with the theme. Not only did he think outside the box, but his sculpting showed great attention to detail, which is difficult when dealing with ficticous creatures.
Freespace-3DT: I feel this piece speaks a lot about prejudice and pain. His expression is perfect and his posture shows the effect of the bullet wound on his entire body.
ClassicGamer-3DT: This is excellent, like a hairy hulk! again as with the others, the proportions are superb and the sculpted hair is really impressive. The expression of complete pain where the bullet wound has hit him is felt not only on the characters face, but also in the way the body is standing wounded.
