Stylised Animal Challenges

Zoo Publishing - 3DCreative Magazine

The 3DCreative magazine’s “Stylised Animal Challenge”, is a monthly competition for all. Each month an animal is selected and announced with some reference images in a special section of the Threedy forums. The guidelines are simple, all you have to do is create a 3d render of this creature in a stylised/abstract/cartoon style whilst keeping your creature instantly recognizable. The 3DCreative Magazine, wanted to publish some content on how to create stylized animals such as you see in the many feature films and cartoon galleries. So, this regular competition has brought in just the images/making ofs they need, whilst giving away great prizes and exposure.

Below you can see the the list of challenges that there has been.

What are they looking for?
Funny and humorous entries, which break the animal down to its most recognizable components. Emphasize these in whichever way you think best and then render your stylised/abstract/cartoon masterpiece.

The rules are pretty laid back, all your need is to submit a 1x3d render (minor post work is ok), If you wish to have a background, include some graphical elements or text on your image its up to you. Renders should be around 800 pixel in dimension, but keep in mind that the top 10 will be featured in 3DCreative Magazine, so if you can create some higher resolution images too, all the better. There will be 1 comp per month, with the deadline being the ending of the month GMT. For a valid entry, just make sure your final image is posted in the main competition thread before this time. The top 3 winners will also be required to submit a ‘making of’ overview article that will be shown on either 3DTotal or 3DCreative Magazine, these need to show the stages of your creation, different elements and some brief explanation text, of why and how you did what you did. Each competition will have one main thread that starts with the brief at the top. This is where all entrants post all WIPs give feedback and generally laugh at the crazy ideas that are emerging each month.
