Spectator on Wed, 18 May 2011 12:58pm This felt more like a how to paint from photo then a how to paint hands in photoshop. I think that what would have been more helpful is giving people a functional mechanic to reproducing the hands with out needing photo for 80% of the source. Even the color sampling from the photo makes you overly reliant on the source. I always feel its better to see and translate for comprehension then to see and trace.

Daarken on Wed, 25 May 2011 6:19pm Spectator - Thanks for the critique. I understand what you mean about painting from a photo, but the main reason I used a photo was because I wanted to paint a realistic hand in a very short amount of time. I only had 8 minutes to do a tutorial, and I didn't want to do a tutorial that wasn't finished. Also, there was no color sampling from the photo, all of the colors I chose from my head just by visually matching the colors. You can see that the only time the eyedropper tool is used is when I am sampling colors from my own painting, not the photo. I will definitely consider doing a tutorial from imagination next time as opposed to doing one from a photo. Thanks!
