(Fig.13) Here I decided that the fin was stealing too much attention and decided to angle it back into the darkness. Here I duplicated the underwater part and used the Add Noise filter to add a grain to the water. I then erased some of that layer to get back to the layer underneath.

Step7:
(Fig.14) Some other artists felt that the tilted horizon made it seem too much like a fish bowl, and so I decided to level it. I also finished up the ocean floor and extended pieces of the shell down so that it could be seen underwater, in an effort to visually tie the city more to the creature. This is the version that I use.

(Fig.15) Some viewers felt that the image was too divided, and that the area above the water needed to be darkened to create more unity. I think it’s important to explore every critique that you’re given, especially since so many of us are working digitally and can simply ‘undo’ if we don’t like the results.

Step9:
In this version I made the city’s reflection on the water, and added more of a green to the colour of the city. I did this to make a print for myself, since I liked these revisions, but I felt that others would prefer the more saturated version of the city and water.
