Making Of 'So You Think I'm Fat Do You?'

Hello everybody, My name is Daniela Uhlig I come from Germany. This making of showing how to create ''so, you really think I'm too fat?'' . Let's go!

First of all I open a new document (approximately 3000 wide and 2600 high, around 300-500 dpi) and make a preliminary sketch (Fig.01).

Now I decide for a basic colour tone for the respective animal and fill in the outlines (Fig.02).

The sketch goes as the final outlines are drawn (Fig.03).

Then I approach the lighting. I set the dodge tool's range to "Highlights" and chose a soft brush. With these settings I start to dodge the spots on the animal that are especially round (Fig.04).

Afterwards a new layer is created and the layer with the base tone is masked so that I don't paint over it. With a soft brush I paint the shadows. When that is done, it's off to the final touch. On the shadow-layer, using the Smudge tool (hard brush, 50-70%), I "smear" colour into the folds and creases, e.g. around the ears, on the belly and in the face (Fig.05).

It's only details now. By adding details this or that can be changed or has to be adjusted, for example wrong placed highlights (Fig.06).

I paint eyes, noses, claws, ears, ribbons. Noses, like eyes, are painted just like the body: Dodge tool set to highlights and some darker colour for the shadowing.

Finally I pick a ''fitting" background colour and simply draw a gradient . After that the animals are masked and on a layer under the animals shadows are painted (Fig.07).

I hope this making of is useful, thanks for reading!
