Roofs & Floors

The Level 0 Floor will not be that complicated to create, we just need to create a box. Switch to Layer 5 and activate the Box Tool, then bring up the Numeric Panel and use the following settings.

LOW HIGH SEGMENTS
X -4,65m X 4,65m X 1
Y -50mm Y 0 Y 1
Z -4,65m Z 4,65m Z 1

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to create the box. Open up the Change Surface Panel and create a new surface called "Floor", then give it a brown colour (R: 130 G: 100 B: 80). Set the specular to 0% and then click OK. That's it for the Level 0 floor, switch to Layer 6 now so we can create the floor for Level 1.

Activate the Box Tool again and bring up the Numeric Panel, then use the following settings.

LOW HIGH SEGMENTS
X -4,65m X 4,65m X 1
Y 2,8m Y 2,95m Y 1
Z -4,65m Z 4,65m Z 1

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to create the box. Switch to Layer 7 and create yet another box with the following settings in the Numeric Panel.

  LOW   HIGH   SEGMENTS
X -2,5m X 2,5m X 1
Y 2,5m Y 3m Y 1
Z -5m Z 2,5m Z 1

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to create the box. Switch to Layer 6 and put Layer 7 in the background, then perform a Boolean Subtract operation and merge points when you're done. 8 points should be eliminated. Switch to Layer 7 and delete this box, then go back to Layer 6 and activate the Knife Tool and use the following values in the Numeric Panel.

Axis: Y

Start End
X -5m X 5m
Y 0 Y 0
Z 2,6m Z 2,6m

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to perform the cut.

We will cut it two more times, so activate the Numeric Panel again for the Knife Tool, and use the following settings.

Axis: Y

Start End
X -2,6m X -2,6m
Y 0 Y 0
Z 5m Z -5m

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to perform the cut, then activate the Knife Tool again and use the following settings.

Axis: Y

Start End
X 2,6m X 2,6m
Y 0 Y 0
Z 5m Z -5m

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to perform the cut. Working in Layer 6, activate the Box Tool and use the following values in the Numeric Panel.

LOW HIGH SEGMENTS
X -2,5m X 2,5m X 1
Y 2,8m Y 2,95m Y 1
Z -4,65m Z -4,5m Z 1

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to create the box. Merge the points now, and 4 points should be eliminated. Layer 6 should now look something like picture 30.

Picture 30: The basic Level 1 Floor

What we have to do now might be a bit tricky. The Top polygons of this object should later become the Level 1 Floor. The Bottom polygons will be the Roof of Level 0, and the thin border we cut with the knife will have the Walls_Wood surface on them, so lets get to work. Bring up the Change Surface Panel and select the Floor Surface, then click OK to apply it. Now we are sure that all of the Polygons are carrying the Floor Surface. Size up the Back View and drag a lasso around the bottom Polygons, like in picture 31.

Picture 31: Select the bottom polygon in the Back View

When the polygons are selected, open up the Change Surface Panel and create a new surface called "Roof". Give it a brown colour (R: 100 G: 70 B: 60), keep the specular at 0% and then click OK.

Now size up Top View and drag a lasso around the polygons we cut earlier, like in picture 32.

With these polygons selected, activate the Knife Tool and bring up the Numeric Panel, then use the following settings.

Axis: Y

Start End
X -1m X -1m
Y 0 Y 0
Z 5m Z 2m

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to perform the cut. Then activate the Knife Tool again and bring up the Numeric Panel, use the following settings.

Axis: Y

Start End
X 1m X 1m
Y 0 Y 0
Z 5m Z 2m

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to perform the cut. Keep the polygons selected and drag a lasso around the mid section where we just made the cut, like in picture 33, then check picture 34 to see if you got it right.

With these polygons selected, bring up the Change Surface Panel and set the surface to "Walls_Wood", then click OK. Keep the polygons selected and activate the Bevel Tool, then use the following settings in the Numeric Panel, one at a time.

Shift Inset
1 15mm 0
2 5mm 15mm
3 -5mm 15mm

Deselect everything and the Level 1 Floor is finished. Now we just need to take care of the Level 1 Roof, which is quite simple.

Switch to Layer 7 and activate the Box Tool, then bring up the Numeric Panel and use the following settings.

LOW HIGH SEGMENTS
X -4,65m X 4,65m X 1
Y 5,75m Y 5,90m Y 1
Z -4,65m Z 4,65m Z 1

Close down the Numeric Panel and hit Space to create the Box. Open up the Change Surface Panel and set the surface to "Roof", then click OK to apply the surface.

Now we are going to arrange the Layers a bit. Switch to Layer 2 where the Level 1 Walls is, and cut them out with "x", and then paste them in Layer 1 together with the Level 0 Walls. Cut the doors out of Layer 3 and 4 and paste them in Layer 2.

Cut the Floors and Roofs out of Layer 5, 6 and 7 and paste them in Layer 3. Now have a look at picture 35, 36 and 37 and see that your layers are the same.

Picture 36: The Doors Layer

Picture 37: The Roof and Floor Layer

Okay, now press "s" to save the progress we've made so far, and now it's time for the Stairs.
